Following rumors of various opponents, Canelo Alvarez finally has a dance partner for September. The undisputed super middleweight champion will defend his belts against a Charlo, but not Jermall, the middleweight champion that was being discussed this week.

Canelo faces undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo on September 30. The Mexican star confirmed the fight on his Twitter account. The bout airs on Showtime (most likely PPV) and will be in Las Vegas.

The fight is the first undisputed vs. undisputed bout in boxing's four-belt era (for men).

Canelo turned pro in 2005. A four-division champion, he has beaten several of the sport's best, including Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, and Gennadiy Golovkin. In less than 11 months, Canelo became the undisputed super middleweight champion, beating Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant. He failed to capture light heavyweight gold a second time in his career, losing to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022. That was his first loss since 2013 against Floyd Mayweather, ending a 16-fight unbeaten streak.

Canelo rebounded by beating Golovkin in a trilogy bout. After undergoing wrist surgery, Canelo returned in May, beating John Ryder to retain his titles. There were rumors of him fighting Bivol in a rematch, Badou Jack, and Jermall. Now, Canelo looks to make history after signing a multi-fight deal with Premier Boxing Champions.

Charlo made his pro debut in 2007. He beat John Jackson in 2016 for the WBC super welterweight title. After losing the title to Tony Harrison in 2018, Charlo won it back a year later. He beat Jeison Rosario in 2020 for the WBA, IBF, and The Ring super welterweight titles. In an attempt to become undisputed, he faced Castano in 2021, fighting to a draw.

In the rematch in May 2022, Charlo beat Castano with a vicious knockout in the 10th to become undisputed. That was the last time he fought, as he injured his hand before he could face Tim Tszyu, the interim WBO super welterweight champion. It's unknown what's next for Tszyu.
