UFC will return to Australia later this year, with president Dana White confirming plans to hold a major event in Sydney.

Following the success of UFC 284 in Perth in February, the company are planning to hold a middleweight title bout between new champ Israel Adesanya and the winner of the upcoming Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis contender clash.

Given the fact Whittaker resides in Sydney and Adesanya is from New Zealand, there is a clear desire to give the Anzac contingent of fight fans something to sink their teeth into.

White confirmed the news while also announcing the UFC 290 title eliminator bout between Whittaker and Du Plessis.

The UFC hasn't visited Sydney since 2017, while the last pay-per-view event in the seaside city was UFC 127 back in 2011.
