The third grand slam of the year is almost upon us when the world's best tennis players head to London for Wimbledon.

Australian and French Open champion Novak Djokovic heads into the tournament in the men's draw among the favourites as he seeks to defend his title.

On the women's side, Elena Rybakina is looking to add the second grand slam title of her career after winning Wimbledon in 2022 and reaching the final in Melbourne at the start of this year.

The last Briton to win a singles title at Wimbledon was Andy Murray in 2016. Is he the British men's number one and who is the women's number one?

Who is the men's British No. 1 tennis player?

Holder of the number one spot for 20 months, Cameron Norrie produced the best performance at a major of his career when he reached the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2022.

The 26-year-old entered the world top 10 for the first time in his career a month before the start of that Wimbledon campaign, which only ended at the hands of the great Djokovic.

Norrie's triumph at Indian Wells in 2021 remains his best win, and his run to the fourth round of the US Open in 2022 is the furthest he has gone at a major other than Wimbledon.

The South Africa-born former competitor for New Zealand was knocked out in the third rounds of the Australian Open and French Open this year.

World number 38 Murray is ranked third among his compatriots, behind world number 25 Dan Evans.

Who is the women's British No. 1 tennis player?

Katie Boulter is currently the British No. 1, becoming the 23rd woman to do so since the rankings began in 1975.

The Leicester-born player rose to the summit by reaching the semifinals of the Lexus Surbiton Trophy in June 2023, then entered the world top 100 for the first time since 2019 by winning her first WTA title at the Nottingham Open

Now ranked 77, Boulter began 2023 by winning the seventh ITF title of her career at the W60 Canberra event, only dropping a set for the first time in the final.

The 26-year-old has not qualified for the main draw of a grand slam since reaching the third round of Wimbledon in 2022.

After beating sixth seed and former world number one Karolina Plískova in the second round, Boulter won two games in a straight sets defeat to current world number 282 Harmony Tan.

Boulter has been given a wildcard for Wimbledon, which is given to players whose ranking is not high enough to secure automatic entry. Wildcards are awarded on the basis of past performance or to increase home interest.

British number two Jodie Burrage, four Harriet Dart, five Katie Swan and six Heather Watson have also received wildcards. Number three Emma Raducanu — the 2021 US Open winner — is out through injury.
