The ongoing Ashes series has been full of controversies and unusual moments, both on and off the pitch. One such story is that involving a barber and Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey.

It has been alleged that the Aussie did not pay for a haircut in Leeds because he had no cash on him. However, it was not as simple as it looks.

The story began when former England skipper Alastair Cook, who is currently covering the Ashes as a pundit, revealed that many Australian cricketers had visited a barber in Leeds. He also said that one of them had not paid the barber. The cricketer in question was later said to be Alex Carey.

Interestingly, Carey has been in the thick of things in the ongoing Ashes campaign and is persona non grata among England fans for the Jonny Bairstow runout incident in the second Test.

Another media outlet took things further and found out the barber in question, and confirmed to the world that one of the Australian players did not pay a single penny.

Was it Alex Carey who visited the barber?

While fans assumed it was Carey, Australian batter Steve Smith took to “Threads” to clarify the rumours. He stated that it was not Alex Carey and asked the media outlet to get their facts right.

The CA (Cricket Australia) also shunned the rumors by clarifying that the cricketer in doubt was not Carey, but another cricketer from the squad, who remains unnamed. The cricketer did not have cash on him, and to his luck, the shop was a cash-only premises.
