It appears everyone wants to be a golfer nowadays. Even your favorite athlete.

NBA stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson and NFL headliners Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce will trade their training gear for clubs when they face off Thursday in the eighth iteration of The Match.

It's an event steeped in sweetness: in recent years, The Match has become a charitable endeavor, offering donations to a number of organizations over the years.

There will plenty of firepower on display at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas. But just how much will they get paid?

Here's what you need to know about The Match's purse in 2023.

The Match purse: How much money will be donated to charity

Organizers of The Match have kept its financials under wraps over the past few years, so it's unclear just how much will be doled out to No Kid Hungry, a not-for-profit organization which aims to snuff out childhood hunger in the U.S.

However, previous iterations of the event have proved beneficial. The second version of the competition raised $20 million of COVID-19 relief, while the third netted $4.4 million for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

The glamorous spectacle tends to bring in the racks, with millions regularly being dispersed to participating charities after the event. So although the exact figures of The Match's "purse" haven't yet been released, expect that number to be in the seven- to eight-figure range.

How much will the winner make?

To the winner goes the spoils...or rather, the bragging rights.

The victorious side in this year's contest will claim superiority over their opposition counterpart, as well as the respective leagues they represent. You can't put a price on that.

However, in terms of profits, there is none: all the money raised during the event will go to charity.

That hasn't always been the case; Tiger Woods pocketed $9 million after vanquishing Phil Mickelson in the first edition of The Match.

But since the event has transitioned to a charitable venture, its participants have foregone their earnings for a good cause.

Patrick Mahomes net worth

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Mahomes is worth a cool $70 million. The Chiefs supernova inked the largest deal in NFL history in 2020, distinction that has helped raise his value immensely over the years.

Mahomes also makes a considerable amount from endorsements as well as the variety of business holdings he has, including investments in Whataburger and Kansas City sports franchises the Royals, Current and Sporting KC.

Travis Kelce net worth

Never one to back down from a challenge, Kelce has reeled in the dough over the course of his Hall of Fame career. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Kelce is worth $30 million.

Kelce's riches aren't quite as deep as his quarterback. But with a litany of endorsement deals —McDonald's, Nike, Papa John's and Tide have featured the Kansas City tight end on advertisements — Kelce isn't hurting too bad. That's not to mention his mammoth contract, which shells out $14.313 million per year.

Stephen Curry net worth

Curry is a game-changer on and off the floor. His business dealings are sizable, some of which are good (Under Armour), others ... not so much (landlord). Per Celebrity Net Worth, he's valued at $160 million.

Curry was the first player to break the $40 million per year plateau when he inked a five-year, $201.2 million deal with the Dubs in 2016. He's since hit $50 million, agreeing another mammoth extension with his beloved Golden State in 2021.

It will take some time for the NFL guys to catch up with him.

Klay Thompson net worth

Thompson tends to stay out of the spotlight ... unless, of course, it's Game 6. However, his pockets are deep; Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Thompson's value sits at $70 million.

A $33 million-a-year player, Thompson has won everything over the course of his glittering career. Yet it's his savvy off-the-floor moves, namely in regard to his wheeling and dealing, that have brought his so much cheddar throughout his playing days.

Thompson inked a 10-year, $80 million exclusive deal with Chinese shoe brand Anna in 2017. And although the footwear company isn't well-known in the United States, Thompson's likeness is ubiquitous on the brand's advertisements across China.
