Teams qualified for Gold Cup quarterfinals 2023

Only the top two teams from Groups A-D advance to the quarterfinals. Here's how the groups shaped up:

Group 1st place
(QF opponent)
2nd place
(QF opponent)
A USA (vs. D2) Jamaica (vs. D1)
B Mexico (vs. C2) Qatar (vs. C1)
C Panama (vs. B2) Costa Rica (vs. B1)
D Guatemala (vs. A2) Canada (vs. A1)

If teams were level on points in the group stage, the first tiebreaker was goal difference, followed by the greatest number of goals scored per the official tournament rules (page 25).

Group A

  • 1st: USA (7 pts, +12 GD)
  • 2nd: Jamaica (7 pts, +8 GD)

The United States qualified as the top team in this group thanks to a +12 goal differential vs. Jamaica's +8. The Americans will play in the last quarterfinal against the runner-up from Group D (Canada). Jamaica advance to take on first place from the same group (Guatemala).

Group B

  • 1st: Mexico (6 pts, +5 GD)
  • 2nd: Qatar (4 pts, 0 GD)

Mexico dropped their final match against Qatar 1-0, but it did not cost them first place in Group B after Haiti lost to Honduras. Qatar used the win to edge out Honduras for second place on goal difference (0 to -3).

Group C

  • 1st: Panama (7 pts, +2 GD)
  • 2nd: Costa Rica (4 pts, +1 GD)

Panama tied their final group stage game 2-2 against El Salvador, holding on to their top position in the group. Costa Rica defeated Martinique in a goal fest, 6-4, to take the second spot and move on the quarterfinals where Mexico await them.

Group D

  • 1st: Guatemala (7 pts, +2 GD)
  • 2nd: Canada (5 pts, +2 GD)

Canada got the win they needed in their final group match over last-place Cuba to overtake Guadeloupe in the standings after the French territory lost in a wild finale to eventual group winners Guatemala. A late Nicholas Hagen penalty kick save sealed the Guatemala 3-2 victory.
