Alabama football is currently in the midst of a quarterback competition, but Nick Saban is already working ahead to secure the Crimson Tide's potential QB of the future.

Rising ninth-grader Trent Seaborn of Thompson High School (Alabaster, Ala.) recently secured an offer from the Tide, the rare occasion for Saban to offer a middle school player. Another notable example is when he offered former five-star linebacker Dylan Moses.

Fans who follow college football recruiting may recognize Seaborn as the quarterback who led Mark Freeman's Warriors to their fourth consecutive AHSAA 7A championship. Thompson — where Taulia Tagovailoa played before enrolling at Alabama — routed the Tigers 49-24 as Seaborn completed 12 of 15 passes for 207 yards and a title game-record five touchdowns.

Those stats are eye-popping on their own, and even more so considering he was only in eighth grade when he carved Auburn's defense so efficiently. The class of 2027 quarterback, whose family is close with the Tagovailoas, will only garner more attention as he enters high school.

Trent Seaborn 247Sports ranking

Because Seaborn is just a rising high school freshman, his 247Sports bio does not currently have a star rating or rank for him in the 2027 class. That hasn't stopped him from receiving multiple college scholarships, the first of which came from Northern Colorado in mid-October.

Seaborn's first Division I offers came from Marshall, Troy and Maryland — where Taulia Tagovailoa transferred — just days after he routed the Tigers in the state championship. Here are his scholarship offers as of June 21, 2023, per 247Sports:

"His composure is great on the field," Freeman said of Seaborn when offered by Auburn on June 8 (via AL.com). "He understands at a young age what we are trying to do, and he understands he is not going to be perfect. He can play the next play and not get hung up on the previous one."

Trent Seaborn age

Multiple reports — including from AL.com — indicate Seaborn was 14 years old at the time he played Auburn in the AHSAA 7A state championship. Per AL.com, Seaborn hails from Highlands Ranch, Colo., roughly 20 miles south of Denver.

He and his family, friends of the Tagovailoas, visited Alabama in 2017 after Tua Tagovailoa enrolled to play for the Crimson Tide. It was there Seaborn, then a third-grader, met Freeman, his future high school football coach.

"He’s like really smart so whenever you go over stuff with him he just gets it,” Freeman said of Seaborn in December 2022. "It’s just a God gift. He’s got a God gift. His memory is great, his talent is great. ... That kid is a solid, solid kid with a mind of about like an 18-year-old."

Trent Seaborn stats

According to AL.com, Seaborn did not start the 2022 season as the Warriors' starter. He played sporadically for Thompson behind starter Zach Sims, himself a three-star quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class.

It wasn't until Sims suffered an injury that Seaborn stepped into the starting role: Sims' last recorded game, per MaxPreps, occurred in a 9-0 loss to Hoover High School on Oct. 21, 2022. In the four ensuing games — all wins — Seaborn completed 69 of 93 passes (74.1 percent) for 663 yards and nine touchdowns to three interceptions.

According to his MaxPreps bio, Seaborn played in 10 games as an eighth-grader, throwing for 1,177 yards and 15 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. Here's a breakdown of his stats:
