The Ashes are alive after England hit back with a three-wicket win at Headingley, prevailing in the latest nail-biter of a pulsating series.
Australia took a 2-0 lead up to Yorkshire and were asked to bat under leaden skies. Mark Wood bowled at speeds in excess of 95 mph on a sensational return to red-ball action and took 5/34 in the first innings.
The tourists' 263 all out owed much to Mitchell Marsh's run-a-ball 118, another player who excelled on his first appearance of the series.
England required another salvage job from inspirational skipper Ben Stokes, who hit 80 in 237 all out before his attack made the most of helpful third-evening bowling conditions to remove Australia for 224.
A victory chase of 251 looked to be slipping away as England lost Joe Root and Stokes either side of lunch and Mitchell Starc (5/78) came to the party.
However, a nerveless seventh-wicket alliance between Harry Brook (75) and Chris Woakes (32 not out) got England close to glory before some typically belligerent hitting from man-of-the-match Wood (16 not out) finished the job.
