Michelle Wie's golf career will come to an end at the U.S. Women's Open this weekend, and she leaves behind an unusual legacy.

Wie was once a child prodigy, turning professional at just 16 years old shortly after finishing second at the Women's PGA Championship at just 15. While Wie was a star on the LPGA Tour and had a more accomplished golf career than most can dream of, she won only one major championship: the 2014 U.S. Open. That victory came more than eight years after she initially turned pro.

Now, she is set to compete to double her total career majors before heading into retirement.

Wie, 33, has floated the idea of stepping away from golf for some time now following wrist injuries, and her career appears to be reaching its end at Pebble Beach this weekend. She is set to focus on her family before deciding her next steps.

Through her husband, she has close ties to one of the NBA's most prominent franchises and one of its most recognizable legends.

Here's what you need to know about Wie's husband Jonnie West and the relationship between the two.

Who is Jonnie West?

West is the Golden State Warriors' director of pro personnel and has been with the organization since 2012. He served as director of basketball operations for three seasons from 2018-2021 and at one point served as associate general manager for the Warriors' G-League affiliate in Santa Cruz.

Beyond his own accomplishments, West is tied into a historic basketball family as the son of NBA legend Jerry West. The Lakers great had a distinguished career as an NBA executive in his own right, and his son is now charting his own course in the league.

The younger West played basketball for his father's alma mater, West Virginia, from 2007-2011. While he only played 350 minutes across four seasons, West experienced a Final Four run in 2010 and was a teammate of current Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla.

West met Wie in December 2018; the pair married less than a year later.
