One of the marquee events of the 2023 World Series of Poker is Event #43: $50,000 Poker Players Championship. This tournament features some of the world's best mixed-game players.

The 99-entrant field created a prize pool of more than $4.7 million that will award $1,324,747 to the champion. Days 3 and 4 of the Poker Players Championship were live-streamed exclusively from the Horseshoe table on PokerGO.com, while the final table moved to the WSOP Main Stage on Friday, June 22.

On Day 3 of the Poker Players Championship, with the tournament approaching the money, the Horseshoe table featured 16-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, 10-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey, and fellow WSOP bracelet winners John Monnette, Daniel Alaei, Marco Johnson, and Ray Dehkharghani. In total, there were 39 WSOP bracelets among the six players.

During an orbit of Pot-Limit Omaha, a short-stacked Hellmuth played a hand against Dehkharghani, leaving the commentators and viewers dumbfounded by his decision to fold the best hand on the river.

Hellmuth raised under the gun, and Dehkharghani called in the big blind before both players checked the flop. The turn improved Hellmuth to two pair, and he bet after Dehkharghani checked with his inferior two pair. Dehkharghani called, and the river improved both players to a full house. Dehkharghani had deuces full of fours, while Hellmuth had deuces full of kings.

Dehkharghani checked to Hellmuth, and the 16-time WSOP bracelet winner bet 16 percent of the pot. After that, Dehkharghani check-raised to $370,000 with the worse hand between the two, prompting Hellmuth to deliberate over his decision before deciding upon a fold.

That mistake from Hellmuth sent him tumbling down the chip counts, but he managed to finish in 14th place for $97,209 in prize money (his second career Poker Players Championship cash). Dehkharghani finished in seventh place for $177,294 in prize money and received his second career Poker Players Championship cash.
