For the third consecutive year, the MLB Draft finds itself at the heart of All-Star weekend. Based on the rosters this season and the anticipation surrounding this group of prospects, it's conceivable we could see some of the players drafted this weekend on an All-Star roster in the future.
What was once seemingly an easy choice for the Pirates at No. 1 overall has become a difficult one. LSU ace Paul Skenes put himself right in the conversation to be the top pick with his excellent performances during the Tigers' championship run, but teammate Dylan Crews will be tough to pass up after his tremendous season.
The Nationals will gladly take whichever LSU standout is still available at No. 2, and there's enough talent up and down the board this year to make the rest of the first round critical for every franchise.

The MLB Draft will be the premier Sunday event of All-Star weekend. The draft, which was once held in June, has become a staple of All-Star weekend since 2021.
The latter two days of the MLB Draft include more picks and will both start in the afternoon at 2 p.m. ET. The draft will wrap up ahead of the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night in Seattle.
MLB Draft order 2023
This is the first MLB Draft with an order determined by a lottery. Despite the Nationals and Athletics finishing with the two worst records in 2022, the Pirates leapfrogged both teams to land the No. 1 overall pick for the second time in three years.
The Pirates selected Henry Davis first overall in 2021, and they're just starting to reap the rewards with Davis joining the team in mid-June. Pittsburgh is believed to be choosing between Crews and Skenes with the top pick. The Pirates will be followed by the Nationals and Tigers.
