After just one game, Amen Thompson's 2023 NBA Summer League run may already be over.

The talented Rockets rookie was forced to exit his team's matchup against the Trail Blazers on Friday night after suffering an injury to his left ankle. It appeared to happen as both teams fought for a rebound with less than a minute remaining in the contest.

Thompson stayed down on the floor after the scrum. He then headed straight down the tunnel after briefly receiving medical attention from the Rockets' staff.

The 20-year-old guard finished the night with 16 points, five assists and four rebounds on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. Houston ultimately won the game in dramatic fashion, as Jabari Smith Jr. knocked down a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

Here is what Thompson's injury means for him and the Rockets moving forward.

What is Amen Thompson's injury?

Thompson suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain and will be sidelined for multiple weeks, according to ESPN's Marc J. Spears.

The game also featured another injury to a star rookie. Portland's Scoot Henderson left the contest in the third quarter after suffering a right shoulder injury.

How long is Amen Thompson out?

As Spears reported, Thompson will be in a boot for a week and is expected to miss the rest of NBA Summer League.

That is disappointing news for several reasons. First and foremost, it prevents him from getting more experience as play continues in Las Vegas. The injury also prevents fans from seeing a potential matchup against his twin brother, Ausar, when the Rockets take on the Pistons on Sunday afternoon.

Amen and Ausar were taken No. 4 and No. 5 overall, respectively, in this year's NBA Draft.

Rockets Summer League schedule

Here is Houston's schedule for the remainder of Summer League in Las Vegas:

July 7 Trail Blazers Rockets 100, Trail Blazers 99
July 9 Pistons 6 p.m.
July 11 Thunder 6:30 p.m.
July 13 Warriors 7 p.m.
